Speaker(s)Elhanan Helpman (Harvard University, United States)
June 03, 2013 until June 05, 2013
The lectures by Professor Elhanan Helpman covered recent developments in international trade and foreign direct investment, including theoretical and empirical studies. After a brief review of traditional trade theory and “new” trade theory, and the empirical challenges to these types of models, they discussed the research that has evolved in the last decade. This included the role of heterogeneous firms, incomplete contracts, labor market frictions, vertical specialization, offshoring and outsourcing.
