Admissions
TI's Research Master program is a selective program for students who have the ambition of pursuing a PhD in Economics, Econometrics or Finance at one of the economics and business faculties affiliated with the Tinbergen Institute. A maximum of 35 students enrol each year. Students are selected by TI’s Admission Board.

How to apply
Before starting the application procedure, please check the Admission Requirements.
Start your application process in Studielink, (the Dutch national education application system). Our joint degree program is administered by Erasmus University (EUR): you must continue your application in the EUR application system. Please read more details about the application process in the Application Procedure section. Students requesting financial support are strongly advised to apply in the December round. Specific deadlines apply for Non-EU nationals, depending on their place of study. Please see below.
Admissions for Cohort 2026-2028 open in Studielink on October 1, 2025.
Deadlines
- December 1, 2025; Deadline for non-EEA students; and/or all students who are interested in applying for University of Amsterdam scholarships
- February 1, 2026; Deadline for non-EEA students at UvA/EUR/VU*; highly recommended for EEA students applying for our scholarship program;
- May 1, 2026: for EEA students only*

*Exceptional Non-EEA candidates not currently studying with our partners may be considered in the February and May rounds, but restrictions related to the visa procedure may impact eligibility. Please reach out to admissions@tinbergen.nl with an overview of your profile.
Please note
- Start your online application early to give your recommenders time to upload their letters before the admission deadline.
- All documents, including test scores and recommendation letters, must be received by midnight (Central European Time) on the day of the deadline.
- Incomplete files will not be considered.
Admission decisions
- Only complete files will be reviewed.
- You can expect to hear from us within eight weeks of the respective application deadline.
- The admisssions office is unable to give individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
- Admission offers are always conditional on verification of diplomas and test results.
