TI Econometrics Lectures 2026
The Tinbergen Institute Lectures are an annual series of advanced PhD-level courses. Participation is also open to PhD students and external research master's students. The Econometrics Lectures are organized jointly with Econometric Institute Rotterdam and Princeton University Press.
Alberto Abadie will give the Tinbergen Institute Econometrics Lectures 2026. He is Professor of Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Date: May 26 (Workshop) May 27-28 (Lectures)
The title of the 2026 TI Econometrics Lectures is 'Synthetic Control and Design-Based Inference for Applied Research: From Key Concepts to Recent Advances'.
This short course introduces the core ideas behind synthetic control estimation and design-based inference, with a focus on practical tools for applied work. It outlines seven guiding principles that anchor credible inference in empirical studies using synthetic controls and shows how researchers implement these principles in real applications. The design-based inference component of the course takes on a perennial office-hours classic: when and how to cluster standard errors.
