Meet the Lecturers for Markets with Frictions

Markets with Frictions


Björn Brügemann is Associate Professor of Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a fellow of the Tinbergen Institute and IZA. He received his PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2004). His research interests include macroeconomics and labor economics, with a focus on the role of frictions in shaping labor market outcomes and policy design. He has published in the Review of Economic Studies, and the Journal of the European Economic Association amongst others.

Ana Figueiredo is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She received her PhD in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) in 2018. Her research lies at the intersection of macroeconomics and labor economics, with a focus on labor market dynamics, inequality, and the role of frictions in shaping employment outcomes. She has published in the Journal of Political Economy and American Economic Review:  Insights amongst others

Pieter Gautier is a Full Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He received his PhD in Economics from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 1997. He is one of the founders of the SaM (Search and Matching) network. His research interests include search and matching models applied to labor, marriage, and housing markets, as well as school assignment models and competing mechanisms. He has published in the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy and the Review of Economic Studies amongst others
