Stefan Obernberger, Carlos Riumallo Herl and Esad Smajlbegovic obtain an NWO Open Competition SSH-XS grant. They receive this grant with a maximum budget of 50,000 euro to enable their proposal for curiosity-driven, fundamental research in the research fields covered by the NWO Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH).
Eva Janssens
Eva Janssens (Federal Reserve Board) received an Honorable Mention from the KVS for her thesis 'Estimation and identification in macroeconomic models with incomplete markets'. Research fellow Christian Stoltenberg acted as supervisor. Eva received the Honorable Mention during the award of the KVS Medal, which is awarded every three years (previously every two years) to the student who has written and defended the best dissertation in economics during the preceding period.

Lucas Saru (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), Finance PhD candidate under the supervision of research fellow Albert J. Menkveld,, won the best paper award in Investments and Asset Pricing at the FMA’s 2023 European Conference in Aalborg from June 7-9.

PhD student Mariia Artemova (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) received the Student’s Best Paper award at the IAAE 2023 Annual Conference for her single-authored paper “An Order-invariant Score-driven Dynamic Factor Model.”

PhD student Timo Schenk (University of Amsterdam) received an Honorable mention for the single-authored paper entitled “Identification and Estimation of Indirect Effects with Difference-in-Difference”
Zichen Deng
Zichen Deng (University of Amsterdam and Norwegian School of Economics) received an Honorable Mention from the KVS for his thesis 'Empirical studies in health and development economics'. Research fellow Maarten Lindeboom acted as supervisor. Zichen received the Honorable Mention during the award of the KVS Medal, which is awarded every three years (previously every two years) to the student who has written and defended the best dissertation in economics during the preceding period.
Ana Figueiredo
Research fellow Ana Figueiredo (Erasmus University Rotterdam) has been awarded Veni funding from the NWO (Dutch Research Council). Figueiredo’s Veni project tackles this issue by studying the role of temporary work as a self-insurance mechanism for workers with limited financial resources.

The foundation Porticus has granted research fellow Martijn de Jong with a grant to develop an AI-driven, domain-specific chatbot to engage young people (ages 18-25) in Europe, in the field of Catholic spiritual formation.

Paul Muller (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) has been awarded an 800,000 euro Vidi funding from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for his research on labor market shortages in the Netherlands.

Evgenii Vladimirov received the Best Paper Award at the pre-conference for young scholars of the annual conference of the Society for Financial Econometrics (SoFiE) at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul (South Korea).
Hande Karabiyik
Honorable mention for Hande Karabiyik (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) in the Econometric Reviews’ Best Paper competition (2021-2022).
Julius Ilciukas
The jury, consisting of the representatives of SSE Riga and the Bank of Latvia, the Bank of Lithuania, the Bank of Estonia and Tallinn University of Technology, unanimously awarded this year's best paper to Julius Ilciukas for his paper on "Fertility and Parental Retirement”.
Yasmine van der Straten
The best single-authored paper was awarded with a prize of €1000, which is co-sponsored by the Sustainable Finance Lab. The paper for which the prize was awarded, “ Flooded House or Underwater Mortgage? The Implications of Rising Climate Risk and Adaptation on Housing, Income, and Wealth” examines the relationship between financial constraints and optimal adaptation to physical climate risk at the household level and its dynamic consequences on housing, income, and wealth. The 1st European Sustainable Finance PhD Workshop was organized by the Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.), in collaboration with EDHEC, ESCP, KU Leuven, Warwick Business School, and the University of Augsburg.

Yasmine van der Straten wins best student paper award for her paper “Flooded House or Underwater Mortgage? The Implications of Rising Climate Risk and Adaptation on Housing, Income, and Wealth” at the CEPR European Conference on Household Finance 2023, organized by CEPR Research and Policy Network (RPN) on Household Finance and the Collegio Carlo Alberto in Turin, with the support of the PhD programme at EDHEC, the National Bank of Denmark and the Queen Mary University of London.
