I estimate the effects of an exogenous change in neighbourhood composition induced by the implementation of the Rotterdam Wet. The law reduced the share of inhabitants on welfare, and increased the share of residents in employment. I focus my analysis on incumbent residents, and find a reduction in the likelihood to take-up welfare benefits and an increase in the probability to be in employment. I conduct heterogeneity analyses using causal forests to determine what group drives these effects.
