Hans Koster
For his paper on 'The Welfare Effects of Greenbelt Policy: Evidence from England', Hans (School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amserdam) received the Sakip Sabanci International Research Award from the Sabanci University in Istanbul. This year, the award acknowledges studies concentrating on the government's role in and economic policies related to the wide range of topics from inequality to income distribution, climate change to energy, traffic congestion to air pollution, transportation to housing. The prize amounts to 10.000 $.
Stefan Stremersch
Stefan Stremersch (Erasmus School of Economics) is the winner of the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award 2020. The two main criteria for the award are: (1) outstanding marketing scholarship as reflected in extensive, impactful research contributions, and (2) outstanding contributions to the European Marketing Academy.

Elbert Dijkgraaf (Erasmus School of Economics) has won the Energy Journal Campbell Watkins Best Paper Award, together with Emiel Maasland. The prize was awarded for their paper on the effectiveness of feed-in tariffs in the development of solar photovoltaics. The IAEE’s Energy Economics Education Foundation instituted a Best Paper Award for the paper designated as the most outstanding of the papers published in The Energy Journal the previous year

PhD student Stephanie Chan (University of Amsterdam, supervisor is Sweder van Wijnbergen) won the best paper award for young academics at the 2016 European Capital Markets Institute (ECMI) Annual Conference, held November 9, 2016 at the National Bank of Belgium for her paper “Contingent convertible instruments(CoCos): Design, Risk Shifting Incentives and Financial Fragility” (TI Discussion Paper, 16-007/VI, co-authored with fellow Sweder van Wijnbergen).
Yasmine van der Straten
The best single-authored paper was awarded with a prize of €1000, which is co-sponsored by the Sustainable Finance Lab. The paper for which the prize was awarded, “ Flooded House or Underwater Mortgage? The Implications of Rising Climate Risk and Adaptation on Housing, Income, and Wealth” examines the relationship between financial constraints and optimal adaptation to physical climate risk at the household level and its dynamic consequences on housing, income, and wealth. The 1st European Sustainable Finance PhD Workshop was organized by the Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.), in collaboration with EDHEC, ESCP, KU Leuven, Warwick Business School, and the University of Augsburg.

Yasmine van der Straten wins best student paper award for her paper “Flooded House or Underwater Mortgage? The Implications of Rising Climate Risk and Adaptation on Housing, Income, and Wealth” at the CEPR European Conference on Household Finance 2023, organized by CEPR Research and Policy Network (RPN) on Household Finance and the Collegio Carlo Alberto in Turin, with the support of the PhD programme at EDHEC, the National Bank of Denmark and the Queen Mary University of London.

This is the main question that research master student Leonardo Nunes addresses in his master thesis on ’Parking policy: Evidence from Amsterdam’. For this thesis Leonardo received the 2020 Vrije Universiteit Master Thesis Award.
Chen Li
Assistant Professor Chen Li of Erasmus School of Economics has obtained an EUR Fellowship for her research project "Identifying and Reducing Biases under Social Uncertainty". With the EUR Fellowship Erasmus University Rotterdam is supporting talented researchers at the early stage of their academic career. The fellowship consists of a grant of € 135,000, to carry out research for a maximum of two years.
Cars Hommes
Cars Hommes (full professor at UvA) is co-author of the prize winning paper in the paper competition that was set up by the Rebuilding Macroeconomics research initiative. In their paper "Economic Forecasting with an Agent-based Model", Sebastian Poledna, Michael Gregor Miess and Cars Hommes present the first agent-based model (ABM) that can compete with benchmark VAR and DSGE models in out-of-sample forecasting of macro variables. Potential applications of the model include stress-testing and predicting the effects of changes in monetary, fiscal, or other macroeconomic policies. "Rebuilding Macroeconomics" (RM) is a research initiative funded by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council and was founded in 2017. RM is hosted by the Institute for Global Prosperity, University College London.

Bo Andree (School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and Nadia Piffaretti (Senior Economist at the World Bank) won a grant with their proposal to develop and pilot methods to nowcast real-time conditions in fragile countries. The grant was awarded under the Disruptive Technology Initiative. The goal is to identify and pilot scalable disruptive technology solutions in World Bank Group (Bank Group) operations to maximize their development impact.
