LISS Grant 2020 for project Policy Experimentation Aversion by research fellow Robert Dur and Benedetta Ricci (both Erasmus School of Economics). Via the grant, the researchers will get access to free panel time. The LISS panel, managed by CentERdata, gives researchers access to survey data from about 7,000 respondents from approximately 4,500 households.

A consortium of European research partners, including TI Fellows Eric Bartelsman and Sabien Dobbelaere from School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit, were awarded a grant for a three year Horizon 2020 research project. The project, Raising EU Productivity: Lessons from Improved Micro Data (MicroProd), will examine the empirical observation that productivity growth in the developed world has slowed down in the past decade despite both continuation of technological innovation as well as greater openness to trade.

Stefan Stremersch (Erasmus School of Economics) is the winner of the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award 2020. The two main criteria for the award are: (1) outstanding marketing scholarship as reflected in extensive, impactful research contributions, and (2) outstanding contributions to the European Marketing Academy.

NWO awarded a VICI grant to Albert J. Menkveld (School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit) for his research project "Financial Techology (FinTech's) Disruptive Impact on Financial Markets: Social Costs and Benefits of an Emerging New Architecture”. Albert’s research focuses on robotic trading. Robots facilitate trade, but increasingly act as traders themselves. Is this new architecture better than the old one? And what are the risks involved?

Aurélien Baillon
Aurélien Baillon, Professor of economics of uncertainty at the Erasmus School of Economics, received a Starting Grant of 1.5 million euros from the European Research Council (ERC). Aurélien Baillon received the grant for the project “Bayesian markets for unverifiable truths”. In this project he will develop a new approach to get correct answers to questions that are otherwise unverifiable, e.g. concerning one’s happiness or the estimated likelihood of dramatic fatal events. As such the results of the project have a potential beyond economics, in a broad range of social sciences.

Bastian Ravesteijn
Bastian Ravesteijn has been awarded a LEaDing fellowship for two years. The LEaDing Fellows Programme provides 90 researchers from all over the world who recently obtained a PhD, with the opportunity to gain two years of work experience in the challenging, internationally acclaimed and multidisciplinary environment offered by Leiden University, Leiden University Medical Centre, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Erasmus Medical Centre and Delft University of Technology.

Elbert Dijkgraaf (Erasmus School of Economics) has won the Energy Journal Campbell Watkins Best Paper Award, together with Emiel Maasland. The prize was awarded for their paper on the effectiveness of feed-in tariffs in the development of solar photovoltaics. The IAEE’s Energy Economics Education Foundation instituted a Best Paper Award for the paper designated as the most outstanding of the papers published in The Energy Journal the previous year
