The Impact of Primary School Classroom Rank on Child Development

I study the impact of classroom rank among primary school students in the Netherlands on outcomes such as test scores, academic confidence, and relationship with fellow classmates and their teachers, using data from COOL5-18. I employ a flexible specification to control for underlying ability, as well as classroom fixed effects in order to isolate the effect of classroom rank. In contrast to other studies, I analyse students from the age of five and their outcomes three years later.
