Lennart Ziegler wins Prof. Bruins prize

The Executive Board of the Erasmus University Rotterdam decided to award MPhil student Lennart Ziegler the Prof. Bruinsprijs this year!

The award consists of a monetary prize of € 4,500 for the benefit of a period of study abroad. The award will be presented to Lennart at the official opening of the academic year 2013-2014 on September 2, 2013 in Rotterdam. It is the first time that a TI students wins the Bruins prize.

The fifth Prof. Bruins Prize will be presented to a research master’s student who has achieved an excellent academic record and demonstrated outstanding research qualities. The prize is made available by the Erasmus University Rotterdam Trust Funds Association. Lennart plans to apply the award to a stay at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom and work with Andrea Galeotti. Galeotti, a TI and EUR alumnus,is professor of economics and centers his research on the formation of networks and their application to various areas of the economy. Galeotti is also the recipient of an European Research Council grant in value of EUR 1,000,000.

This summer Lennart will complete the MPhil programme and start as a PhD student under the supervision of TI fellows Erik Plug (University of Amsterdam) and Bas van der Klaauw (VU University Amsterdam). Lennart’s PhD research will focus on the impact of social networks and interpersonal ties on labour market outcomes such as employment prospects and earnings.
