Bas Jacobs appointed as Professor of Public Economics

As of June 1 2022, research fellow Bas Jacobs will be appointed as Professor of Public Economics at the School of Economics and Business at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Bas Jacobs appointed as Professor of Public Economics
Previously, he held the Sijbren Cnossen chair of public economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam (since 2018) and was professor of public economics at Erasmus University since 2007.
 
In his research, Jacobs crosses the borders of public finance, optimal taxation, welfare economics, macroeconomics, human capital theory, environmental economics and labor economics. Lately, his research focus on the political economy of income taxation, capital income taxation, indirect redistribution mechanisms, such as minimum wages and labor unions, the distributional consequences of technological change, and stabilization policy.
 
Jacobs teaches the course Public Finance in the Tinbergen Institute research master program. He is also an important contributor to the Dutch economic policy debate, regularly publishing opeds in main Dutch newspapers, and writing for monthly journals and online news sites.
