Niels Rietveld appointed as Professor of Economics and Genetics

Niels joined the Erasmus School of Economics in 2010 as a PhD candidate, and has made significant strides in economic and interdisciplinary research, publishing extensively in top-tier journals, including ScienceNature, and The Review of Economic Studies.

His pioneering work bridges economics and genetics, with a focus on understanding how genes, environments, and policies interact in shaping socio-economic inequalities. He earned prestigious grants, including an NWO Veni Grant (2015), an ERC Starting Grant (2020), a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action – Doctoral Network consortium grant in the Horizon Europe programme (2022) and an NWO Vidi Grant (2024).

Niels Rietveld plays a key role in shaping doctoral education at Erasmus School of Economics, serving as Director of Doctoral Education since 2023.
