Igo Dobbe wins Jan Brouwer Thesis Award 2026

PhD student Igo Dobbe (Erasmus University Rotterdam) is the winner of the annual Jan Brouwer Thesis Award 2026, in the category of Economics and Business Economics.

Igo Dobbe wins Jan Brouwer Thesis Award 2026

Igo receives it for his master's thesis 'Optimal Taxation of Risk‑taking under Heterogeneous Risk Preferences', which he wrote as part of his Research Master in Economics at Tinbergen Institute under the supervision of research fellow Aart Gerritsen (Erasmus University Rotterdam).

The KHMW Jan Brouwer Thesis Award (Jan Brouwer Scriptieprijzen) is an annual award provided by The Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW: Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen). KHMW is the oldest ‘Learned Society’ in the Netherlands and was founded in 1752.

Igo will receive the prize during the award ceremony on Friday February 6, 2026 at KHMW in Haarlem. During the award, he will deliver a short presentation of his thesis.

Igo is currently a first‐year PhD‐candidate at Erasmus University Rotterdam under supervision of research fellows Aart Gerritsen and Kevin Spiritus (Erasmus University Rotterdam). His main interest goes out to public economics and research on optimal taxation.
