Placement Stephanie van der Veen: Copenhagen Business School
Stephanie van der Veen will start as tenure-track Assistant Professor at Copenhagen Business School in September 2026.
Stephanie is currently a PhD candidate in Accounting at Erasmus University Rotterdam under the supervision of Jeroen Suijs (Erasmus University Rotterdam) and Edith Leung (Tilburg University).
Her research is centered around disclosure and regulation, using her data science background to systematically process and interpret textual disclosures. She broadly examines firms’ disclosure behaviour in contemporary settings characterized by increasing economic complexity, evolving stakeholder demands, and changing regulatory landscapes.
Her dissertation projects include studying firm disclosure responses to regulatory shocks (e.g., the EU AI Act and U.S. state-level pay transparency laws) and exploring disclosure choices more broadly (e.g., in loss-making environments). Collectively, her work deepens our understanding of disclosure as both a communication and strategic choice under regulatory frictions.
During the 2024-2025 academic year, she was a visiting PhD student at the University of Colorado Boulder, United States.
Stephanie is an alumna of the Tinbergen Institute’s Research Master programme in Business Data Science (2022).
