Simon Mayer Wins 2021 Best Job Market Paper in Finance Theory

Since 2011, the Finance Theory Group awards prizes for the best theory papers on the finance job market. The annual award is granted by a dedicated award committee consisting of several members of the group. It is a highly prestigious award confirming academic excellence, many of the winners are from world's top universities in economics and finance.

Simon Mayer Wins 2021 Best Job Market Paper in Finance Theory

Simon Mayer is one of the two 2021 winners of the best paper in finance theory on the job market this past year. Simon was awarded Runner-up for the paper "Financing Breakthroughs under Failure Risk". Yue Yuan, graduating from LSE, was awarded the first Prize for the paper "Competing with Security Design." Alumna Magdalena Rola-Janicka (Tilburg University) won this prize in 2020. All past winners can be found here.

In summer 2021, Simon will be joining the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, United States as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Fama-Miller center. After that, he will be joining HEC Paris, France as an Assistant Professor of Finance from summer 2022.

Simon is a TI research master graduate (2017) and currently PhD student in Financial Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam under the supervision of research fellow Sebastian Gryglewicz.

Simon's research focuses on Corporate Finance, FinTech, and Entrepreneurial Finance. He has published in the Journal of Financial Economics and has one publication forthcoming in the same journal.
