Biography

Miao is a postdoctoral researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He received his PhD in Economics from McGill University, Canada,

He is an applied microeconomist with a strong interest in environmental and resource economics and their intersection with industrial organization and international trade.

He develops theoretical models based on stylized facts to tackle complex environmental and resource problems and unpack the underlying driving forces with empirical applications and policy implications. Specifically, his research agenda addresses three lines of research questions: (i) the role of critical minerals in the energy transition; (ii) the impact of cross-ownership in the presence of resource and environmental constraints; and (iii) the effects of environmental lobbying on international waste trade.

Primary Fields: Environmental and Resource Economics
Secondary Fields: Industrial Organization, International Trade, Political Economy
