Thomas Buser, Associate Professor at the Amsterdam School of Economics (UvA) has been awarded a Starting Grant by the European Research Council for his project “Competition, Time Pressure, Public Speaking and Multitasking: The Role of Willingness and Ability to Cope with Pressure in Explaining Individual Differences and Inequality in Career Outcomes”.

Albert J. Menkveld ranked first in the 2020 Dutch Economists Top 40. The Economist Top 40 (economentop) is a list of the best publishing economists in the Netherlands published annually by ESB magazine (Economisch Statistische Berichten). Thomas Peeters (Erasmus School of Economics) received the 2019 Societal Impact Award for combining excellent research with solid policy advisory work in the field of sports economics. The award is granted by the Erasmus School of Economics Management Team.

Research Fellow Frank Kleibergen (University of Amsterdam) was elected Fellow of the Econometric Society on October 8, 2025. A total of twenty-five new Fellows have been announced this year. They are then a Fellow for life.
Julia Schaumburg
The 2019 Engle Prize, awarded by the Journal of Financial Econometrics, has been awarded to Julia Schaumburg (School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit). Julia received the prize for her article "Beyond dimension two: A test for higher-order tail risk” (2016, co-authors: Carsten Bormann and Melanie Schienle). The Engle Prize was awarded to a young scholar, for best paper published in 2016, 2017 and 2018 volumes.

Frank van Oort (Erasmus School of Economics) is project leader of the multidisciplinary research group that has been awarded an NWO ZonMw COVID-19 research grant. Together with the consortium partners, the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL), Erasmus School of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Van Oort will investigate the societal effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the (intended) measures for mitigation.

Thomas Douenne (University of Amsterdam) receives a Veni research grant (2025-2029) of €320.000 from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for project 'On the design of climate policy: improving fairness and public support'. With this project Douenne aims to answer how to design climate policies that are fair and supported by the public.

Frank Kleibergen, Amsterdam School of Economics, University of Amsterdam, received an Open Competition Grant in the Domain Social Sciences and Humanities for his research project "Double robust inference for structural economic models (DRISEM)". Research Master student Eva Janssens has been awarded a three-year NWO Research Talent grant to fund a PhD project on "Estimation and Identification of Parameters in Macroeconomic Models with Incomplete Markets". The project will be supervised by research fellows Frank Kleibergen and Christian Stoltenberg, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Amsterdam.
