Terri van der Zwan
Terri van der Zwan, Tinbergen Institute PhD candidate at the Econometric Institute of Erasmus School of Economics, has received a Fulbright Promovendus Award to research new methodologies on how to combine multi-frequency data.Terri will spend the Fall semester of the academic year 2022-2023 in the United States conducting research for her next project, attending seminars and conferences, and building relationships with fellow scholars.She will be based at the Rady School of Management, hosted by Professor Allan Timmermann at the University of California San Diego (UCSD).

TI alumnus Merrick (Zhen) Li has been awarded Joop Hartog Dissertation Award for the best PhD thesis at the Amsterdam School of Economics defended in 2018 or 2019. The award consists of a medal and a cash prize of EUR 2,500. The prize has been awarded biannually since 2008.

Research fellow Fleur Deken (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) receives grant from the KIC partnership with Next Generation Infrastructures ‘Responsible Transformations,’ together with colleagues from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, TU Delft and The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Together they are receiving €1.2 million from the KIC partnership with Next Generation Infrastructures ‘Responsible Transformations’.

Thirty universities from all over the world participated in the yearly Econometric Game on April 8-9. PhD students of the Tinbergen Institute were part of the teams of Erasmus University Rotterdam, the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The team of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, consisting of TI PhD students and research master alumni Quint Wiersma (team captain) and Mariia Artemova, and VU master students Niels Ota and Arne Platteau, were rewarded a second place in this prestigious competition for students in econometrics. The team of Erasmus University Rotterdam with TI PhD student Terri van der Zwan (team captain) made top 10.

Anne Opschoor
Anne Opschoor receives an NWO Vidi grant for his research 'Heterogeneity in extreme risks in high dimensions' Uncertainties like covid19 or Brexit have potentially different effects on countries and industries. Most contemporary models cannot describe such heterogeneity sufficiently well. This research develops new models with more heterogeneity in risk responses and investigates the economic differentiation and robustness of different countries and industries in Europe.
