Placement Maddalena Totarelli: ifo Institute

Maddalena Totarelli, a PhD student at the University of Amsterdam, will join the Economics of Education group at ifo Institute – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich, Germany, as a Postdoctoral Researcher at, starting in September 2025.

Maddalena earned her Research Master's in Economics from Tinbergen Institute in 2021 before starting a PhD at the Amsterdam School of Economics, under the supervision of Research Fellow Erik Plug and Giuseppe Sorrenti (HEC Lausanne, Switzerland).

Maddalena is an applied microeconomist specializing in labor, education, and crime economics. In her job market paper she explores how prison rehabilitation programs can support the successful reintegration of former prisoners into society.
