Three Times Henk Tijms in NY Times
Emeritus professor of VU Amsterdam and TI honorary fellow, Dutch econometrician, Henk Tijms has managed to publish three of his mathematics/probability puzzles in the celebrated ‘Numberplay’ section of the New York Times in 2015.
His latest puzzle has been a festive one, related to family gift exchanges during Sinterklaas or Christmas parties. It is a challenging puzzle but Henk provides some directions. His previous New York Times math puzzle had the inspiring title “Boys and Girls in New Clothes ?” while his first one concerned “Dropping Balls into Bins”; this problem might even be of some interest to financial mathematics. We hope Henk continue to produce such challenging puzzles in the new year.
