The jury was very impressed by the study results and track record of Pim, who obtained his Bachelor International Bachelor Economics and Business Economics (IBEB) at the Erasmus University with honors, and now finalizing the Research Master (MPhil) at Tinbergen Institute. Pim Kastelein focuses on a topic that is very relevant in the Netherlands: pensions.
Pim will complete the MPhil programme this summer and start his PhD at University of Amsterdam under the supervision of fellows Roel Beetsma (University of Amsterdam) and Ward Romp (University of Amsterdam) this fall. Pim’s PhD research will focus on ‘Pension funding, housing wealth and macroeconomic demand’. For his PhD research, Pim recently received a NWO Research Talent grant.
The Prof. Bruins prize consists of an award of € 4,500 to be used for study abroad. The award will be presented to Pim at the official opening of the academic year 2016-2017 on August 29, 2016 in Rotterdam. It is the second time that a TI student wins the Bruins prize. In 2013-2014 the prize was awarded to Phd student Lennart Ziegler.
It is the 8th time that the Prof. Bruins Prize will be awarded to a Research Master student with outstanding academic achievements and research abilities at the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
