Jurre Thiel
Jurre Thiel is the winner of the KVS Medal (‘Penning’) 2020 for best PhD thesis defended in the field of economics at a Dutch university in the past three years. Jurre won the medal for his PhD thesis entitled ‘Competition, dynamic pricing and advice in frictional markets: Theory and evidence from the Dutch market for mortgages' defended on January 14, 2020 at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Research fellow José Luis Moraga-González acted as supervisor.

Steven Poelhekke (School of Business and Economics Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) received an NWO grant under the research program Smart Urban Regions for the Future (SURF)/ERA-NET COFUND Smart Cities and Communities. With this grant 4 PhD students and a postdoctoral researcher will be funded. Subjects: Automated driving; smart incentives and tradable peak hour permits; evaluation of commuting behavior and innovative urban transport policies; and the interrelations between urban form, energy use and local environmental quality.

Yun won the medal for her PhD thesis entitled ‘Fertility, Parental Investments, and Intergenerational Mobility' defended on September 27, 2022 at the University of Amsterdam. Nenov (Norwegian Business School (BI)) are the winners of the prestigious Hicks-Tinbergen Award 2022 for their paper Buying First or Selling First in Housing Markets (JEEA Volume 19 Issue 1).
Hong Deng
Hong Deng (Erasmus University Rotterdam) won the best paper award (PhD track) at the Marketing Dynamics Conference 2022, which took place at Georgia State University on November 10-12. For the award the three best papers in the PhD track were selected based on the audience feedback and the committee evaluation.

Didier Nibbering
PhD alumnus Didier was granted a bronze statue and a cash prize of 10,000 euros by Ingrid van Engelshoven, the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science. According to the Chair of the jury, professor Philip Hans Franses, Nibbering was awarded the prize because his dissertation is "highly developed in terms of quality and content ... well-written and distinctive because of the clear theorization and impressive in the original way of thinking". Amongst the nominees was another Tinbergen Institute alumnus, dr. Merrick Li.
Arturas Juodis
The editors of The Econometrics Journal have awarded the 2019 Denis Sargan Econometrics Prize to research fellow and TI alumnus Artūras Juodis (University of Amsterdam) for his article "Optimal panel unit root testing with covariates” with Joakim Westerlund in the January 2019 issue of The Econometrics Journal (https://doi.org/10.1111/ectj.12118). The price will be presented on Tuesday April, 13 2021.

Veel woningen zijn de afgelopen jaren binnen bestaand stedelijk gebied gebouwd, maar het is de vraag of dit in de toekomst ook lukt. Wij onderzoeken daarom de ruimtelijke en financiële haalbaarheid van verdere stedelijke verdichting. Dit project is een samenwerking van VU Amsterdam en Deltametropool.
